Trip To Victoria and The Butchart Gardens
We had been looking forward to our second trip to Victoria, British Columbia since
our first trip in the winter of 2011. That was a "Christmas Lights" setting at The Butchart Gardens
and not really showing off the landscaping for which the Gardens are famous.
We left from home in Sequim (H) at 0700 hrs, got to Port Angeles (A) at 0730, boarded the ferry at 0800,
and backed away from the dock at 0815.
A view of P.A. from the stern with our beautiful Olympic mountains in the background.
After a pleasant, uneventful voyage (the kind we like, unless the event is sighting sea life)
we docked at Victoria inner harbor (V) at 0945.
The Victoria inner harbor was quite lively compared to the "blue water" Strait of Juan de Fuca.
Got through customs, exchanged our vouchers for
bus tickets, and boarded the bus a few minutes before it departed on its way to the Gardens.
The "bus tour" part of our excursion was much more interesting than it was on our previous trip.
It was daylight for one thing, but the driver/guide was also competent and pointed out
sights in the city as well as interesting historical notes about the culture, countryside, and
especially about Jenny Butchart, the prime mover of the Garden development.
We got to Butchart Gardens (B) about 1130.
